Île de Roume
December 11, 1999

The Îles de Los, just off the coast of Conakry, belonged to the British until 1904. Coral Island (Île de Corail), barely visible on the horizon to the left, was supposedly Robert L. Stevenson's inspiration for Treasure Island.

The lovely Ms. Ami Kourouma runs a charming little hotel on the south side of Roume, featuring pleasant rooms and good food.

View of the island from the top of Ste. Madeleine Hill, which is a solid granite mound. The islands are volcanic in origin, and have nothing to do with Conakry, geologically speaking. Kassa Island is in the background.
